Being prepared for a fire emergency can take many forms. One important way is to create a “Go Bag” for families and individuals. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), the following items are recommended below. What’s in a Go Bag?’

  • 3-Day supply of Non-Perishable Food
  • Manual Can Opener
  • 3 Gallons of Water Per Person
  • Pet Food and Water
  • Map of at Least 2 Evacuation Routes
  • Necessary Prescriptions and Medications for Each Person
  • Change of Clothes: Cotton Long Sleeved Shirt and Pants.
  • Extra Glasses and Contact Lenses
  • Car Keys, Credit Cards, Cash or Travelers Checks
  • First Aid Kit and Sanitation Supplies (Moist Towelettes/Wipes, Tissues, Hand Sanitizer)
  • Personal Hygiene Needs
  • Face Masks and Flashlights For Each Person
  • Battery Powered Radio with Extra Batteries
  • Copies of Important Documents (Birth Certificates, Passports)
  • Valuables That are Easy to Carry
  • Family Photos and “Irreplaceable Memorabilia”
  • Hard Drives with Computer Data
  • Extra Chargers for Cell phones and Laptops
  • Wrench or Pliers To Turn Off Utilities
  • Plastic Sheeting and Duct Tape for a Shelter-In-Place
  • Whistle To Call for Help
  • Unique Family Needs (Diapers, Infant Formula)
  • First Aid Kit with Basic Meds
