Ever thought of becoming a certified tennis coach? This is the first step in your journey. The initial training is the USTA’s Coaching Fundamentals Workshop, a two-day workshop on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, at Peninsula Tennis Club in San Diego. It will be 8am to 4pm the first day, and four hours for the second. The fee is $40 and the deadline to register is November 30.
This training will cover Red, Orange, Green and Yellow ball tennis fundamentals to provide the basis for moving toward a teaching pro certification through the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) or the Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA), formerly the USPTA.
The Southern California Tennis Association Foundation would like to help with its Teaching Pro Certification Scholarship. First, take this USTA Coaching Fundamentals Workshop, then sign up with the RSPA or the PTR. Apply for our scholarship and complete these programs and we will reimburse you up to $600.
“We believe in the importance of helping future teaching pros get a start because it can be a financial challenge,” said Linda Milan, the Executive Director for the SCTA Foundation. “We want to make it as easy as possible to help more up and coming pros, which will then bring the game of tennis to more kids. We believe tennis changes lives in wonderful ways.”
The USTA Coaching Fundamentals Workshop is two-day, on-court, face-to-face event for non-certified coaches focusing on coaching and teaching tennis to beginners through low-intermediate players of all ages. National Coach Developers approved by the USTA will facilitate the training.
It is open to anyone ages 18+ as well as minors age 16+ with a parent/legal guardian signed waiver. It is recommended registered coaches take an online pre-course before attending the two-day on-court training. You will gain access to the online course after completing full registration.
Upon successful completion of both days workshop participants will receive a Record of Completion from USTA. The Coaching Fundamentals workshop is recognized by certifying organizations and is the first step toward earning a Level 1 Coach Certification, if desired.
The location for the training is 2525 Bacon Street, San Diego, CA 92107. For more information, contact Kevin Finkelberg at finkelberg@scta.usta.com or call 310-824-2970.
